Kenyan police arrested 11 Somalis reportedly carrying false and stolen Kenyan identification cards in a sting operation along the Garissa-Dadaab highway on Sunday (February 16th), Kenya's Citizen News reported.
The suspects, in their 20s and 30s, were on a bus headed for Nairobi when they were apprehended at a police checkpoint. They told police that they were en route to South Africa in search of employment.
Garissa County Commissioner Rashid Khator said some businessmen in the region help illegal immigrants come into the country.
Garissa's Director of Criminal Investigations Department Musa Yego called on local residents to share information with police to help them halt the movement of illegal immigrants.
